Sunday Sum-Up

Where does the time go? Seriously. Is there a temporal vortex in my closet or something? I could have sworn the first of April was last week, and here it is the last day of the month!

So what have I been doing with all of this time? A lot of reading, photography, work, mundane household chores. That sort of thing.  Since I finished Guillermo del Toro’s book, Trollhunters, have have read Peter Matthiessen’s The Snow Leopard, Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s The Club Dumas, Bill Bryson’s I’m a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America After Twenty Years Away, Dan Harris’s 10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works, and Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art.

My current reads are Galsan Tschinag’s The Blue Sky and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Return of the King. The Blue Sky is taking far longer than I anticipated, despite the fact that it’s a straightforward book written with clear prose. Perhaps it’s to do with its being set in Mongolia amongst the herdsmen as their ages old culture is beginning to undergo massive changes. There is so much to take in, so I think that taking all of that in and processing it is part of what is taking me so long to read it.

Once I actually sit down with it and focus, I’ll finish The Return of the King in short order.

I bought a couple of books this week!

I keep hearing about The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, and because it is a book about stories, I figured I would like it. Paul Strand is someone we studied in my photography classes. His photographs are amazing, and have provided me with a lot of inspiration over the years.

It’s been raining a lot in the past week. Right now, wind, rain, and what sounds like sleet are buffeting my windows and making it sound like January out there instead of the last day of April. I don’t mind it so much, though. It’s cosy in here, and I have plenty of tea and books to get me through the day.
